ITEMS TO KEEP OUT OF THE LANDFILL PROGRAM
The 'Items to Keep Out of The Landfill' (ITKOOTL) Program began when our Founder faced frustration over her single-use plastic prescription pill bottles. She searched tirelessly for a reuse solution until discovering a humanitarian relief organization that could repurpose them. From there, the program grew, expanding its collection list in various cities thanks to the dedication of volunteers. (Please note: Earthub has discontinued pill bottle collections).
While our program isn't the ultimate solution, life often presents unavoidable circumstances where refusal and reduction aren't feasible in daily life. Some items we collect fall into this category, but whenever possible, prioritize the first two 'R's: reduce and reuse. As Anne Marie Bonneau aptly put it, 'We don't need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.'

LOCATIONS
The accepted collection items vary by location, as they are based on the needs of end users in different areas.
To receive a list of drop-off locations, please email Earthub at environment@earthub.ca with your city in the subject line. We do not post locations publicly to respect the privacy of our volunteers, as most drop-off sites are private residences.
Currently, our active collection cities are Ottawa and Peterborough, with an occasional collection booth in Kingston. As this is a volunteer-run program, most drop-off locations are private residences, so we do not post these addresses publicly.
Please email environment@earthub.ca with your city in the subject line to receive the relevant information for your area!

DROP-OFF
Please collect the specified items for your city and ensure they are clean before drop-off. Since we are a volunteer-run program, we do not have the capacity to clean dirty items. We kindly ask for your help in supporting our reuse efforts by only dropping off clean and dry items.
Save emissions by dropping your items off in bulk!
