How can you change your everyday behaviour to refuse unsustainable products?
Many of us were raised on meat. We like our fast food or junk food. Society has pressured us to live the most lavish lifestyle as opposed to a sustainable one.
Do you eat meat?
There is a ton of controversy over this question. Whether the argument is that it is cruel or that it is not good for our health or the process is not sustainable for our planet.
The sad reality is - it is what we know. I was raised on meat, cheese, cow's milk, etc. the works! Do I think meat tastes good? Unfortunately!! Why? Because it is what I knew then.
I will never criticize anyone for what they choose to eat however, I do believe it is the small efforts that make an impact. If you are eating meat but do "Meatless Mondays" I commend you! I understand that not everyone can change their lifestyle for the environment but please recognize that you can make minor changes that can make a huge difference. I went vegan in January 2019. I have the power to REFUSE meat to make a positive environmental impact. The truth is - you cannot call yourself an environmentalist and still eat meat!
Do you buy new?
A powerful quote I love by Will Smith is: "We spend money we do not have, on things we do not need, to impress people who do not care."
Here's my version:
"We buy things we do not need, with money we do not have, to impress people we do not know"
Nearly everything we need literally already exists within kilometers of us. Whether it be at a second-hand store, someone near you selling it, or a friend not using what you could borrow.
Is it a WANT or a NEED?
We have needs for means or survival, we have wants to satisfy some temporary urge that is going to pass in the near future. You have the power to REFUSE items you do not need!
